Many local seniors are homebound and struggle to obtain healthy meals. Hundreds have no one to talk with or check on them on a regular basis. When volunteers come to the door with a hot meal Monday through Friday, the food and visit help these seniors stay healthy and independent longer.
Who Is Eligible?
The Meals on Wheels Program delivers a nutritious noontime meal to homebound senior adults age 60 and over. Guilford County residents age 60 and over who are homebound and unable to obtain and prepare a nutritious meal for themselves are eligible for this service. There may be a waiting list in certain parts of Guilford County if the route in that area is full.
Want to Become a Meals on Wheels Volunteer?
Volunteers from the faith community, local businesses and schools work in pairs to deliver the meals, which are prepared by a local caterer. The volunteers also check on the well-being of each senior they visit. We welcome individual volunteers, community organizations, and local businesses to participate in helping to bring a hot meal and a warm smile to seniors who are homebound.
Deliveries generally take about an 1.5 hours Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Routes are available all over Guilford County and volunteers can deliver as often as their schedules allows. Contact Alison Little at 336-373-4816 extension 243 or send an email to find out how to volunteer.
