Senior Resources of Guilford Invites You to Become a Santa for a Senior.
Ho, ho, ho! Senior Resources of Guilford's Santa for Seniors program is back! Santa for Seniors is an annual holiday project-undertaken this year in conjunction with Greensboro's Libby Hill restaurants, Guilford County's Tex & Shirley's Family Restaurants, and High Point's Roy B. Culler, Jr. Senior Center-that invites the community to donate gift items for Senior Resources of Guilford's program participants. Trees decorated with special tags will be prominently placed in each location. These tags contain various gift item suggestions: for example, gift cards, toiletries, large-print books, canned goods, lap robes, gloves, and towels. Greensboro's Libby Hill restaurants are located at 3920 Cotswald Avenue and 3011 Randleman Road. Tex & Shirley's restaurants are located at 708 Pembroke Road in Greensboro and 4005 Precision Way in High Point. The Roy B. Culler, Jr. Senior Center is located in High Point at 600 North Hamilton Street.
The success of Santa for Seniors each year is due to the incredible support we receive from our community. Last year, our volunteers delivered 969 gift bags to our Mobile Meals recipients, Telecare and Case Assistance clients, and the seniors who attend our eight Community Nutrition sites.
Additional volunteer opportunities are available for people to deliver meals on Christmas morning, host a holiday party for one of our 8 Community Nutrition sites, adopt a Meals on Wheels route by providing gifts for meal recipients, collect personal care items, or volunteer to receive donations at our Holiday House at 1401 Benjamin Parkway in Greensboro. The Holiday House will open December 7 and will remain open Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm until December 22. For further information, or to volunteer and/or donate to this program, please contact Volunteer Coordinator James Joyce at 373-4816 (extension 249), or feel free to e-mail him at email@example.com. Share the love with Subaru and Senior Resources of Guilford.
For the tenth year running, Meals on Wheels America (MOWA) is participating in Subaru's SHARE THE LOVE EVENT. Over the last several years, Subaru has donated nearly $10 million to Meals on Wheels-that's the equivalent of more than 1.4 million meals to seniors across the country! Subaru supports Meals on Wheels America because too many seniors are struggling to stay independent and healthy. One in four seniors lives alone in isolation and one in six seniors might not know where his/her next meal is coming from. This is unacceptable, which is why Senior Resources of Guilford daily provides nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks to homebound seniors in Guilford County. This vital support keeps seniors in their own homes, where they want to be.
Senior Resources of Guilford is grateful to Subaru and its retailers for supporting our organization and the seniors we serve. This November 16, 2017 through January 3, 2018, for every new Subaru vehicle leased or sold, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer's choice of participating charities. Meals on Wheels America is one of four national participating charities, and has been since the inception of the event. Through this campaign, as a Member of Meals on Wheels America, Senior Resources will receive a share of the revenue earned in North Carolina. You might not be in the market to purchase a new car, but if you are, please look into the SHARE THE LOVE EVENT to learn more. If you're not shopping for a new vehicle, you can still help by spreading the word to your family and friends. Guilford County's local dealer is Capital Subaru of Greensboro at 801 East Bessemer Avenue. And remember - this holiday season, you can ensure our senior neighbors are not forgotten when you buy or lease a new Subaru and select Meals on Wheels America as your charity of choice!
